Community Affairs
The Office of Community Affairs is responsible for overseeing a variety of programs for community members of all ages. Community Affairs operates the Middlesex Sheriff's Office Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA) for youngsters ages 8 to 12; facilitates the Special Citizens Academy; and coordinates presentations on scams and senior safety issues through the Law Enforcement and Residents Networking (L.E.A.R.N.) Program.
Requests for presentations including for those on scam prevention, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the Middlesex Sheriff's Office can be submitted to the MSO by completing our Community Presentation Form here.

Community Outreach Team
The Community Outreach Team was founded in 2022. The team is comprised of 20 members, both officers and civilian staff. Their main goal is to educate the communities within Middlesex County on various aspects of public safety.

Law Enforcement & Residents Networking (L.E.A.R.N.)
Law Enforcement And Residents Networking (L.E.A.R.N.) is an initiative of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office focused on educating and informing the public through collaboration, and engagement in dialogue around public safety matters.

Safer Homes, Safer Communities Initiative
Since 2013, the Middlesex Sheriff's Office has partnered with local police departments and community groups to support gun buybacks in cities and towns across Middlesex County. These community-led buybacks bring together leaders from a wide range of civic life: high school students, public health professionals and faith leaders have all worked with public safety partners to host events in their hometowns.

SafetyNet Program
The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office has participated in the SafetyNet Tracking™ Program since 2012. SafetyNet Tracking™ is designed to assist public safety agencies in locating individuals with cognitive conditions such as Autism, Alzheimer’s or Dementia, who have wandered off and are missing.

Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA)
YPSA is a week-long camp designed to introduce our youngest citizens to role models in public safety – namely sheriff’s officers and local police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, as well as to teach them valuable life and safety lessons.

- What is the Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA)?

The Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA) is a summer camp for youngsters ages 8-12 from across Middlesex County. Cadets visit with local police and fire officials, learn about fire safety hazards in our fire safety trailer and participate in exercises designed to demonstrate the power and importance of teamwork.
