TOWNSEND, Mass. – Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian and Townsend Police Chief James P. Sartell have announced the recent completion of interactive, scenario-based training for members of the town’s police department.

The training was completed during the week of October 6 in Townsend utilizing the MSO’s Mobile Training Center (MTC). 10 Townsend officers participated over the course of five days.

During the training, officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios that replicated situations they may encounter on the job. This included traffic stops, trespassing, and active shooter scenarios.

“By facilitating this interactive, scenario-based training, we are helping officers reinforce skills and techniques that are critical to safe and effective policing, specifically around communication and de-escalation,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “Working alongside the Townsend Police Department reflects our shared commitment to collaboration and strengthening trust between law enforcement and the communities we serve.”

“We’re grateful to the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office for allowing us to use their Mobile Training Center. The opportunity to conduct live-fire, scenario-based training with the same equipment our officers carry every day is invaluable,” said Chief Sartell. “Realistic use-of-force training enhances preparedness, builds confidence, and ultimately makes our community safer. The program was staffed by a true professional, and the experience highlighted the importance of collaboration and teamwork between agencies dedicated to public safety.”
