The Transportation Unit manages inmate movements outside the perimeter of the Middlesex Jail and House of Correction. These specially assigned officers maintain care, custody, and control of inmates when they must be transported to – or from – courts, hospitals, or other correctional institutions across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. All transports involve multiple officers who ensure the safety and security of both the inmate and the general public.
The Transportation Unit can occasionally be seen assisting local police departments as well as the state police with medical events, vehicle accidents, and other emergency situations.
